new media: resume dvd
for my final new media project, i made a resume dvd that encorporated my photos, design examples, and writing samples. the photos and design examples were made into a slideshow with music, while my writing samples, resume and cover letter were placed inside the dvd case. you can see photos of the finished product above. this is a creative way of showing a future employer what skills you have beyond the usual photo album and resume. hopefully, this will help me land a job.

new media: b&h photo and video
B&H Photo Video is an online vendor of electronic supplies. I primarily use them for all things photography, but they have this really cool feature that allows others to view your wish list. Because I am graduating in May, I have created a graduation wish list that my friends and family can view to get ideas on what to buy me as a gift. I can send a mass e-mail out to everyone telling them about the site, and it allows them to purchase the product with a click of the mouse. It's amazing how times are changing.

new media: itunes
itunes has revolutionized the entertainment industry. Now you can buy an album without even leaving your computer desk. You can also buy movies, TV shows and books. itunes really is great, but it's a little monopolistic. I think that Apple has a little too much of the market and that scares me. Recently, there have been charges brought against the company in Europe for violating business practices. It will be interesting to see if something like that happens over here in the states.

new media: the pine log online
This semester, we changed our website to include some new cool features. The Pine Log online now includes message boards, story views and slideshows. We have used all of the features this semester to enhance our coverage of the school. You should definitely check it out some time: www.thepinelog.com.

new media: myspace
myspace has become one of the most visited websites on the net recently. For many, it's a way of keeping in touch with friends, much like facebook, but with fewer safeguards. To me, it's a little creepy. You can literally find anyone you want. For example, one of my childhood friends, who I haven't seen in like 13 years, found me on myspace. It was random. I never would have guessed I would have been able to catch up with her this far down the road.

new media: pandora internet radio
Pandora Internet Radio is part of The Music Genome Project. It was created my an MIT graduate who uses math algarhythms to determine similar music styles. You type in an artist you like and it will play music by that artist as well as others like him or her. The best thing of all is that it is free.
Here's some more information about The Music Genome Project:
On January 6, 2000 a group of musicians and music-loving technologists came together with the idea of creating the most comprehensive analysis of music ever.
Together we set out to capture the essence of music at the most fundamental level. We ended up assembling literally hundreds of musical attributes or "genes" into a very large Music Genome. Taken together these genes capture the unique and magical musical identity of a song - everything from melody, harmony and rhythm, to instrumentation, orchestration, arrangement, lyrics, and of course the rich world of singing and vocal harmony. It's not about what a band looks like, or what genre they supposedly belong to, or about who buys their records - it's about what each individual song sounds like.
Over the past 6 years, we've carefully listened to the songs of over 10,000 different artists - ranging from popular to obscure - and analyzed the musical qualities of each song one attribute at a time. This work continues each and every day as we endeavor to include all the great new stuff coming out of studios, clubs and garages around the world.
It has been quite an adventure, you could say a little crazy - but now that we've created this extraordinary collection of music analysis, we think we can help be your guide as you explore your favorite parts of the music universe.
We hope you enjoy the journey.

new media: abc.com
Many networks have started posting their television shows online. ABC has posted all of the episodes from the season of certain shows. Most other networks only post the current week's episode. The great thing is that when I miss a show because of The Pine Log or a sporting event, I can still watch the show.

Best Superbowl 2007 Commercial
This one didn't have as good of a rating as other, noteably the Bud Light ones, but I think it's great.
Companies that want to have a successful ad campaign, need to utilize TV. YouTube is like an extension of TV and thus gives them more advertising, for free.

new media: facebook
facebook is one of many ways i keep in touch with both my high school and college friends. it's also a great way to contact people you haven't seen in years. i found some of my old friends from down the block, who moved away several years ago, on facebook last year. we got caught up on each other's lives since the move and it was pretty cool.
